The business of monitoring, measuring and understanding social media
Companies in social media analysis reported taking in about $395 million in new investments in 2020, the most since 2015. As in 2019, however, the total is heavily skewed by an investment in one company, masking an overall trend of greatly reduced investment in the space.
*For the second year in a row, the total is dominated by one company. In previous years, the largest single investments have typically represented 25–50% of the year’s total, compared to 76% (Signal AI, 2019) and 89% (Sprinklr, 2020). When we exclude the outliers from 2019 and 2020, we get a decidedly more modest picture.
Here's a recap of the year’s investment activity. As always, you can find the latest deals and the collection of annual reviews on SMA’s investments page.
