Poptip Joins Palantir

Poptip announced that it has been acquired by Palantir, the developer of high-end intelligence platforms with an emphasis on government and financial markets. In a post on the company blog, Poptip founder Kelsey Falter describes plans to continue building data analysis products for the commercial sector but doesn't mention Poptip's existing products for social surveys and social media analysis.

Poptip was the first of two acquisitions this week for Palantir, which also acquired Propeller, which built tools for mobile app developers. The Propeller site has been replaced with an announcement of the acquisition.

Innodata Acquires MediaMiser

Innodata (NASDAQ: INOD) announced that it has acquired MediaMiser in a cash-and-deferred-payment deal worth C$5.78 million (US$5.38 million) by 2016, with an additional performance-based payment of up to C$5.0 million (US$4.60 million) in 2017.

Innodata is a services company with specialties in content management and data analytics. Following the acquisition, it plans to continue the MediaMiser operation in Ottawa, preserving the MediaMiser name.

Engagement Labs announced that it has agreed to acquire Entrinsic, a social media analytics and communications agency with revenues of around $2.4 million. The deal, subject to approval of the TSX Venture Exchange, consists of cash and stock for a total of $1.46 million.

Entrinsic founder/CEO Eli Singer will become Chief Strategy Officer of Engagement Labs, and the company expects the entire Entrinsic staff to remain with the company in its Toronto office.

Quantifind announced that it has raised $12 million in an investment round led by Comcast Ventures and Iris Capital. The company plans to scale up by applying the investment to product development, sales and client services. Quantifind links social media data to clients' financial data to create models of consumer actions, which the company says helps clients understand the effects of marketing strategies on business results.

Conversocial Adds $5 Million

The social customer service specialist Conversocial announced the addition of $5 million to its current round of funding, bringing the total round to $9.4 million. The latest investment was led by Octopus Investments and included Matt Arnold and DFJ Esprit. The company has raised a total of $11.9 million.

Lexalytics Acquires Semantria

Lexalytics announced that it has acquired Semantria, a text analytics company that offers an Excel Add-in and a cloud-based API service built on Lexalytics’ Salience engine. The company positioned the acquisition as a move to make text analytics accessible to smaller companies.

NetBase Raises $10.2 Million

NetBase announced that it received $10.2 million in a series D round that brings the company to a total investment of $51.8 million. The round included SAIF Partners and existing investors Thomvest Ventures, Altos Ventures and WestSummit Capital.

Engagement Labs (TSXV:EL) announced that it has raised $4.3 million in a private placement of shares and purchase warrants. While stating that the money will be added to general working capital, the company reiterated its announced intention to pursue an acquisition this month. It has also completed an equity-for-debt resolution with a service provider.

Separately, Engagement Labs announced a partnership with Netvibes that will make a set of dashboard widgets from the company's evalue analytics Pro suite available to Netvibes clients.

Wayin Raises $13.1 Million

Wayin announced that it has received $13.1 Million in a series C investment round led by US Venture Partners. The company plans to use the money for international growth and expansion of its engineering team.

The new round brings the total investment in Wayin to $33.1 million.
