HootSuite announced that it has closed a $60 million financing round, bringing its total financing to $250 million. The company says the round was led by "a prominent global institutional investor," with participation by existing investors Accel Partners, Insight Venture Partners and OMERS Ventures, and also by Silicon Valley Bank.

Earlier this month, an unconfirmed report from the Wall Street Journal pointed to Fidelity Investments as the unnamed investor.

HootSuite also announced its acquisition of Zeetl, the developer of a platform that links social channels to telephone-based customer service operations.

AlchemyAPI announced the addition of a Face Detection and Recognition API to its AlchemyVision product line. Given an image file or URL, the API returns the position, age, and gender of the detected face. The system can also identify well-known people by name and provide other details; AlchemyAPI says the system can recognize 60,000 different named individuals.

AlchemyVision was announced initially in May.

Dataminr screenshotDataminr announced the North American launch of Dataminr for News, a platform designed to identify news leads and trending stories from the Twitter firehose in near-real time. The company says that Dataminr for News, which was developed in partnership with Twitter and CNN, is in trials in more than 50 news organizations.

Dataminr plans a formal launch beyond North America early 2015.

Cyveillance introduced Cyber Threat Center, a web and social media intelligence platform for security, cyber and threat analysts.

The new platform emphasizes the special requirements of open-source intelligence with domain-specific sources and a tagging system that features a built-in security vocabulary. The platform's Analyst Toolbox includes specialized tools and references, such as its databases of known malware attacks and threat actors. Regular reports on physical and cyber security threats around the world are also part of the service.

New Papers, 16 September 2014

Cision and Vocus announced that they have acquired Visible Technologies to add social media intelligence to the combined companies' suites of PR tools.

Cision and Vocus were acquired earlier this year by the private equity fund GTCR, which has announced its intention to combine the two companies—and now Visible—to create a one-stop powerhouse for cloud-based PR services.

Visible acquired Cymfony from WPP in 2012.

HootSuite announced that it acquired Brightkit in July and has developed its product into the new HootSuite Campaigns, a platform for building and managing marketing campaigns in social media channels.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that HootSuite has received $35 million in new financing from a group led by Fidelity Investments, bringing the company's implied value near $800 million.

Trackur Gives APIs Own Brand

Trackur announced the rebranding of its APIs as Senfluence to separate them from the Trackur SaaS product. The move is designed to support the release of APIs unrelated to the company's current, social media monitoring business.

Initially, Senfluence API services are available in two forms: Social media monitoring, which includes Trackur's source data, sentiment analysis, and the company's InfluencerRank metric, starts at $470 per month for up to 50,000 items per day. The sentiment and influence analysis API, minus the data feed, starts at $370 per month for up to 10,000 URLs per day.

Sprinklr Buys Branderati

In its third acquisition this year, Sprinklr announced that it has bought Branderati for its influencer and advocacy solution.

Sprinklr's other acquisitions were Dachis Group in February and TBG Digital in August.
