Ushahidi Opens CrisisNET Firehose

Ushahidi announced the opening of the public beta of CrisisNET, a platform that provides access to crisis data from social media and other sources. The service is designed to reduce the time and effort required to extract and analyze data during a crisis, helping journalists, researchers, and decision makers. CrisisNET is free and open-source, subject to reasonable limits on usage.

CrisisNET collects data from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as from specialized sources in crisis monitoring, such as ReliefWeb. The system normalizes data formats and adds metadata fields, including automated topic tagging, geocoding, and licensing information.
