DataSift launched Query Builder, an open-source tool for customizing the DataSift query interface and embedding it in enterprise systems for business users.

Several familiar names from Radian6 (now Salesforce Marketing Cloud) have appeared at Introhive , a startup that aims to help clients connect to customers through the collective social networks of their employees. Based in New Brunswick, Introhive was founded in 2012.

In a blog post, Introhive co-founder/CMO (and former Radian6 CMO) David Alston says that the Radian6 alumni at Introhive include marketing VP Rob Begg and sales VP Richard McInnis. LinkedIn shows a total of seven have joined the new company.

Sentiment applianceViralheat has introduced its Sentiment Analysis Appliance, a preconfigured computer server for installation in customers' data centers. The appliance duplicates the function and access methods of Viralheat's existing sentiment analysis API, which has been available as a free service since 2011.

Viralheat's primary business is its SaaS-based social media management platform, which the company describes as a unified tool for social media monitoring, measurement, analytics, and engagement management. It opened access to its sentiment analysis functions to improve its algorithms through wider use.

The new appliance is functionally equivalent to the public API, using the same hardware and software as Viralheat's own systems. The company introduced the deployed hardware model to address the hosted service's performance constraints (on latency and throughput) and concerns about data security from developers who work with government or financial data.

Viralheat's Sentiment Analysis Appliance is available through an annual lease program. The company did not discuss pricing.

PeopleBrowsr , the developer of the Kred influencer-scoring platform, announced that it has acquired Swaylo, the Facebook analytics specialist that spun off from Facebook's Threadsy acquisition. PeopleBrowsr is already merging the companies' products and plans to retain the Swaylo team.

New Papers, 5 February 2013

Spredfast announced that it has received $18 million in an investment round led by new investor OpenView Venture Partners. Existing investors Austin Ventures and InterWest Partners also participated.

In its announcement, Spredfast reported 400 percent revenue growth and a doubling in employee headcount in 2012.

Twitter Acquires Bluefin Labs

According to a report by Business Insider, Twitter has acquired Bluefin Labs , a social media analysis provider that specializes in linking social media data to television programming and advertising.

Update (5 Feb): Twitter and Bluefin Labs have announced the deal.

Augure Acquires Adequate Systems

Augure announced that it has acquired Adequate Systems to diversify its customer base and to offer a simpler product for SMB clients. The companies will continue to operate separately, with a consolidation expected next year.
